Interreg against climate change
Categoría General
Last week we were at COP25, in Madrid, in a workshop organized by Interact, together with the Interreg POCTEP, Interreg POCTEFA and Interreg DANUBIO programmes to present projects that, co-financed by these programs, make a difference in the fight against climate change.
The European Commission has just announced this week the goal of 0 emission by 2050, at a time when the international community is alarmed by the consequences of climate change that leads to catastrophe. And with this concern, María Carmen Hernández, Deputy Director of European Territorial Cooperation in the General Directorate of European Funds of the Spanish Ministry of Finances, inaugurated the event, insisting that we are at a key moment in the negotiations of the EU budget for 2021-2027 and the need to devote more resources to fighting climate change transversally based on three priorities: desertification and drought, green and circular economies and biodiversity protection.
The workshop has been the occasion to highlight what is done through the Interreg Sudoe programme. Thus, several projects of the first call with an environmental vocation were presented, among which ClimACT to develop transition plans to low carbon economy in schools, SUDOE STOP CO2 to guarantee the energy efficiency of bus and train stations and AGUAMOD for the effective management of water resources in periods of drought.
